This has nothing to do with WordPress, but it has a lot to do with web design. I've worked with many clients who think they can rely on their gut instincts when it comes to design. Maybe you can if you are Eric Meyer or Edward Tufte, but mere mortals should rely on A/B testing. For the most part, my clients over-estimate the level of insight they have into their own customers. A smart client would realize that their own opinions are worthless -- all that matters in the end is what their customers want, and the only way to be sure of what the customers want is through A/B testing.
