Where the heck is the PM feature?

Where on earth is the private messaging feature here on WPQuestions.com?

Someone sent me a message the other day, but I've never seen it via anything but email and have no way to reply to that person.

I've looked high, I've looked low, and in the end I've just given up. Am I completely bonkers? Or is this actually nowhere to be found on the site?

    John Cotton says:

Click on the person's name and then click the send message button :)

      Ryan Hellyer says:

Yeah, that's how to send. I want to know how to read the messages. Otherwise that's not a PM system, it's just an emailing system.

I worded my question poorly ;)

I can't reply to the person because I don't know who they are. I don't know who they are, because it was sent to my email account which I use for spam purposes which I delete everything from sporadically. I didn't worry about deleting everything, because I assumed I could read the message later on via WPQuestions.com since it looked like a typical PM.

Sadly, I don't think you can. Perhaps Laurence will make this part of the site a little more robust sometime soon...

The link to reply is right in the mail itself.

      Ryan Hellyer says:

Yup, but how do I read the message? I can see it in my email inbox, but I'd rather just read them here on WPQuestions.com. If there's no ability to read them other than via email, then that's not really private messaging, that's just emailing someone ... which is fine, but I didn't think that's how it worked.

I send you a pm, check your mail.. :)
    did it work?

    • 09/12/11 9:16am

      Christianto says:

To be more clear you can reply/pm someone by going to
      http://wpquestions.com/user/contact/id/xxxx

Change xxxx to user id, you can see the id if you hover to someone name

for example my id is 3601, contact form/message link is:
      http://wpquestions.com/user/contact/id/3601

John Cotton id is 2046, contact form/message link is:
      http://wpquestions.com/user/contact/id/2046

But its clear, its not same like vBulletin or forum PM ;D

      Ryan Hellyer says:

      Yep, it arrived.

I'm think my definition of "Private Messaging" is just different to other peoples as I'd have called that an email system. Private messaging to me means a system which is controlled entirely from with the site itself, not via email. Systems like that often email you to let you know a PM arrived, which is what I thought when I received a message the other week.

If it just an email system, then I'd better change the address I use as I signed up here with my "spam" account, so I am unlikely to notice any messages which I arrive there.
