custom menu html structure WordPress

  • SOLVED

I have a html structure like this and wanted to have this work either using a walker or any other method with wp nav menu. Currently using boot strap, js works great but want to be able to highlight everything into a WordPress structure so that it opens depending on the template loaded. While also still having the icons etc.

<!-- Content -->
<div class="navbar-vertical-content">

You can put something like this into your header where you link to the nave menu:

<nav class="navbar navbar-expand-lg navbar-light">

<div class="container">

<button class="navbar-toggler" type="button" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#main-nav" aria-controls="" aria-expanded="false" aria-label="Toggle navigation">
<span class="navbar-toggler-icon"></span>
</button>

<?php
wp_nav_menu(
array(
'theme_location' => 'menu-1',
'menu_id' => 'primary-menu',
'container' => 'div',
'container_id' => 'main-nav',
'container_class' => 'collapse navbar-collapse justify-content-end',
'menu_id' => false,
'menu_class' => 'navbar-nav',
'fallback_cb' => 'WP_Bootstrap_Navwalker::fallback',
'walker' => new WP_Bootstrap_Navwalker(),
)
);
?>

</div><!-- end nav container -->
</nav>

Then you have to link to the nav walker folder in your functions.php file:

/**
* Register Custom Navigation Walker
*/
function register_navwalker(){
require_once get_template_directory() . '/inc/wp_bootstrap_navwalker.php';
}
add_action( 'after_setup_theme', 'register_navwalker' );

yes but I needed some help building the walker portion on order to have icons etc,

jpequens comments:

Gotcha - I used this for the walker in the /inc/wp_bootstrap_navwalker.php folder, not sure if this helps for the icons
